New Zealand ETA - Eligibility Requirements

Person who intend to apply for a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (ETA), they would need to meet the following requirements:

  1.  Application Form: Applicants must ensure that all information provided is accurate in order to avoid delays in processing.
  2. Digital Passport Copy: Digital copy of the applicant's passport bio-page is required. The validity of the passport should be above one year at the time of application
  3. Digital Color Photo: Digital photograph in colour is required. The background of the photo must be taken against a white background.

Additionally required considerations may be as below

  •  Applicants should meet good character requirements while applying for NZeTA. Applicants who do not meet good character requirements such as criminal convictions  due to circumstances should apply for a standard visitor visa.
  • Applicants should not have any valid visas while applying for an ETA for New Zealand. If applicants hold a valid visa, then an ETA is not required. 
  •  New Zealand ETA can be applied by the applicants from Countries which fall under the Visa Waiver Program
  • All passengers travelling on a cruise arriving by sea must obtain an NZ ETA regardless of their nationality.

Special Cases:

  • Medical Visits: Applicants entering New Zealand for medical treatment or consultations must secure a Medical Treatment Visitor Visa unless they are Australian permanent residents.

Application Outcome of the ETA Application:

Once an application is filed for an New Zealand ETA , the final decision to grant/reject the ETA will be at the discretion of the New Zealand Immigration Department. The ETA approval will be sent to the respective email address used in the visa application.

Holding an ETA to New Zealand does not entitle you to enter the country provided the admission inside the country is approved by the immigration officer at the entry point of the country.
